Maitland Movie in the Park, Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida

Big Smiles at Screen on the Green

At Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida we just love staying involved in our local community. We’re committed to serving as the best pediatric dentists that we can be, and for us, that commitment doesn’t know the boundaries of our office walls. This past Saturday we had a blast as popcorn sponsors for the city of Maitland’s Screen on the Green!

Screen on the Green is a great event for the entire family where you get to sprawl out on a blanket in the middle of Maitland Middle School’s soccer field and watch a movie on a big screen. Saturday’s pick was the adorable movie, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida was present dishing out popcorn, and of course toothbrushes! The tooth fairy stopped by too! We had such a great time that we have plans to sponsor another movie, “Maleficent,” on November 7th.

As your local pediatric dentist we truly enjoy spending time within the Maitland community, which is why we’re aiming to participate in monthly events. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter for updates so that you and your kids can join us for the next one!

Healthy Snacks for Kids On the Go

Having kids means constantly being on the go. Whether you’re carting them to and from school, sports, clubs, or friends’ houses, it’s incredible that you even find time to eat! Since it’s not always so easy to plan for what life with kids can throw your way, we wanted to share some healthy go-to snack options to keep on hand for those hectic days!

• Granola bars. Don’t be fooled by the non-nutritional granola bars stuffed with sugar. Look for low-sugar, high-fiber granola bars. Even the healthy granola bars can stick to your teeth, so be sure to have water on hand at all times to wash it down.
• Cheerios or other low-sugar, high-fiber cereal. Throw a bag or box of this cereal in your car for a healthy snack that will satisfy a hungry belly.
• String cheese. String cheese is not only nutritious and delicious but is fun for kids to eat! Grab one or two out of the fridge on your way out the door.
• Applesauce. Those small cups of applesauce can really come in handy when your child has a sweet craving while you’re out and about.

As your pediatric dentist here in Maitland we hope that your child enjoys some of the healthy snacks we’ve listed above. Should you have any inquiries regarding your child’s dental health, please don’t hesitate to contact Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida today.

Spring into Action with Your Kids

Spring is officially in full swing and as your pediatric dentist we hope that you and your kids are making the most of it! While little teeth are our specialty, we know that healthy teeth belong to healthy little bodies. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in Central Florida, so we shared a few outdoor activities below that the whole family can enjoy.

If you’re looking to put down the game controllers and stretch out those legs under the Florida sun, consider the following outdoor activities:

• Four square. Don’t remember the last time you played? Get out the chalk and the kickball and kick start this classic playground game. You’ll be at the king square in no time!
• Beanbag toss. Beanbag toss or corn hole is becoming a popular backyard activity because anyone can play! You can build the boards yourself or buy them right from a local store.
• Broom hockey. Grab a couple of brooms and a tennis ball, and you’ve got yourself a new sport! Whether you stay on foot or strap on your rollerblades, broom hockey is sure to get your kids excited!

No matter which activities you participate in this spring, at Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida we hope that you and your kids enjoy some quality time in the beautiful weather. When you’re not busy rough-housing in the dirt, contact our office to schedule your child’s next dental checkup.

Add Your Child’s Teeth to Your Spring Cleaning List

Everywhere we look it seems that people are busy tackling their spring cleaning chores. From cleaning, painting, gardening, and everything in between, the spring season is a wonderful time to mark some of those to-dos off of your list. As your pediatric dentist here in Maitland, we’d like to encourage you to make your child’s teeth cleaning one of those spring chores!

While your crammed closet and your grimy garage could surely use your attention this spring, we hope that your children’s dental cleaning is at the top of your list! Although some people don’t take their children to the dentist because they think their baby teeth will fall out anyway, we’d like to remind you just how important dental checkups are to your child’s long-term dental health. Those little teeth will fall out eventually, but will only leave the proper space for their permanent teeth when cared for properly.

In between spring cleaning and your everyday chores, be sure to schedule an appointment with your child’s pediatric dentist. We’ll be glad to help you get that important to-do checked off of your list!

Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics Under One Roof!

At Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida we are proud to not only offer exceptional pediatric dental care, but also outstanding orthodontic care! Right here in our Maitland office, you will find our very own wonderful in-house orthodontist, Dr. John Smith.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist by the age of seven in order to evaluate their development. Both science and history suggest that making small corrections now can result in less need for orthodontic care down the road. As pediatric dentists, Dr. Bertot and Dr. Mansour are qualified to identify any foreseeable developmental problems, and therefore perform an orthodontic evaluation during each routine visit. Should Dr. Mansour or Dr. Bertot identify any developing issues, they will refer your child to the care of Dr. Smith. However, because of our comprehensive level of care, children don’t typically require the help of an orthodontist until the beginning of permanent dentition which typically occurs around eleven or twelve years of age.

When you choose Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida to care for your child’s dental health, you’re choosing an entire team of professional and knowledgeable dental health professionals. If you’re interested in learning more about orthodontics in Maitland, FL, don’t hesitate to contact our office today. We look forward to providing your child with the best possible dental care!

Tooth Fairy Magic

As your children’s pediatric dentist in Central Florida we not only love to make your child’s smile healthy, but we love to make them smile! This past Saturday was a wonderful day for Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida, as Dr. Mansour and the Tooth Fairy accompanied sixteen of our fabulous princess patients to the movies to catch a glimpse of Disney magic in the new Cinderella.

Recently we called upon our princess patients to post a photo to our Facebook page showing off their best princess pose and attire for a chance to meet the Tooth Fairy–and they answered! Dr. Mansour and the Tooth Fairy happily escorted our smiling princesses and their parents to see Cinderella on the big screen and a great time was had by all!

Are you interested in meeting the Tooth Fairy too? The Tooth Fairy would love to visit your school to talk about healthy snacks and drinks for your teeth, and how to best keep them clean. Call Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida at 407.628.2286 to schedule a fabulous visit from the Tooth Fairy!

The Pediatric Difference

Parents are faced with a multitude of decisions as they navigate parenthood, and it’s no different when it comes to choosing your child’s healthcare providers. When considering which type of dentist to choose for your child, we encourage seeking the care of a pediatric dentist over a general dentist for several reasons.

As a parent you know that your kids undergo an incredible amount of growth and development during childhood, and their mouths are no exception. That’s why after dental school, pediatric dentists receive an additional two to three years of training. This additional training allows them to specialize in treating your child’s developing teeth. Just as your child’s body requires a pediatrician to care for his or her growing body, pediatric dentists are able to provide specialized care for his or her developing teeth. At the Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida, we pride ourselves on being extremely adaptable to each child’s needs and fostering a fun, calming, and child-friendly environment. Our staff is glad to go the extra mile to ensure your child’s optimum level of comfort.

Whether your child has special needs, has a grave fear of the dentist, or simply needs a cleaning, the caring staff at Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida looks forward to providing him or her with exceptional personalized dental care.

Kids Need Their Kale

Healthy teeth start with a healthy diet. With the everyday hustle and bustle that comes along with raising children, feeding your kids a properly balanced diet can seem like an impossible task. As your pediatric dentistry in Orlando we’d like to help you introduce kale into your kids’ diet.

Kale is one of those super vegetables complete with ample antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins K, A, and C. Introducing kale and other healthy vegetables into your child’s diet now will help them develop a taste for healthy choices down the road. Consider the following kid-friendly options to help integrate kale into your child’s diet:

  • Add it to a smoothie. Adding kale to a fruit smoothie is a surefire way to give your kids a yummy vitamin boost.
  • Make it into chips. Add a little olive oil and sprinkle some salt on a few kale leaves before putting them into the oven and they’ll be kale chips before you know it! Kids love the crunch.
  • Mix it in. Kale makes a great accent in several dishes including salads, soups, omelets, pastas, and even desserts.

As your pediatric dentistry in Orlando, we hope that your child gets a kick out of some kale in their diet. Contact Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida with any questions about your child’s dental health, or to schedule their next checkup!

Fact or Fiction Quiz: Baby Teeth

Properly caring for your child’s teeth can seem overwhelming, but as your children’s dentistry in Orlando, we’re here to help! The American Dental Association separated a few facts from fiction regarding your baby’s teeth, and we’d like to share some of those with you here:

Fact or Fiction: Baby teeth are important.

Fact! While you might think otherwise because baby teeth will eventually fall out, your baby’s teeth are placeholders for their permanent adult teeth. Premature loss of baby teeth can result in problems down the road.

Fact or Fiction: Babies get fevers when teething.

Fiction! Your baby should not develop a fever when teething. If your baby has a fever, his or her baby teeth are not the culprit.

Fact or Fiction: Diluting juice is better for your child’s teeth.

Fiction! Your child’s teeth are still at risk of decay when drinking watered-down juice. He or she should drink water after drinking juice to wash away residual sugar, and of course brush their teeth at least twice a day.

At the Pediatric Dentistry of Central Florida we take pride in serving as your children’s dentistry in Orlando. Contact our office today to schedule an appointment and to begin your child’s comprehensive dental care.
